Refer-a-friend program

You could receive a gift card Reward for referring a friend to obtain a personal loan through Oportun, subject to the terms and conditions stated below. Oportun reserves the right to modify or discontinue this Program at any time, in its sole discretion. For purposes of this Program:

  • A “Referrer” is an individual who has a current or former Personal Loan through Oportun who is not in the business of lending or brokering financing for consumers.
  • A “Referred Friend” is an individual who is identified by the Referrer, does not have and has never had a Personal Loan through Oportun as either a borrower or co-borrower at any time, and who meets the criteria necessary to qualify for a Personal Loan through Oportun.
  • “Participants” are defined as both Referrers and Referred Friends. Participants must reside in where a Personal Loan is available and be 18 years of age or older at time of participation.
  • A “Personal Loan” is either a secured or unsecured loan made by Oportun or an unsecured loan made by Pathward®, N.A.
  • “Reward” is defined as either a Tango Card delivered to your email address that gives you access to more than 100 retailers or a Visa® gift card mailed to your home. Rewards are unrelated to the Participant’s account or ability to obtain future accounts through Oportun. The standard Reward amount is $25, but this amount may be temporarily increased for limited promotion periods at Oportun’s discretion for either the Referrer and/or the Referred Friend.

By participating in the Program, Participants agree to these terms and conditions and agree that Oportun may contact the Participant via email, SMS texts and telephone regarding the Program. This Program is void where prohibited by law.

If Oportun modifies the terms of this Program, new terms will be posted on Oportun.com/terms/refer-a-friend, which are effective upon posting. Continued participation in the Refer-a-Friend Program after any modification shall constitute consent to such modification.

If the Program is canceled, Oportun will honor Rewards earned relative to loan applications accompanied by a referral code that were initiated before the discontinuation date, if the resulting loan is disbursed within 30 days after discontinuation.

Here’s how you and a friend can each receive a gift card reward:

  1. The Referrer must obtain their unique referral code, in any of the following ways:
    • Go to oportun.com/refer, click on “Get your code,” and follow further instructions, or
    • Visit a participating Oportun retail location, or
    • Call 855-314-5927 to speak with an Oportun agent.
  2. The Referrer will identify Referred Friends by:
    • Providing Oportun with a Referred Friend’s first name, last name, daytime phone number, email address, his/her preferred language, relationship to the Referred Friend, and referral code
    • Sharing the referral code with Referred Friends
  3. A Referred Friend must apply for a new Personal Loan through Oportun, which must be approved and disbursed during the Program period or for up to 30 days after the Program is discontinued.
  4. When applying for a personal loan, a Referred Friend must provide the referral code and agree to participate in the Program in order for the Referrer and the Referred Friend to qualify for the Reward.
  5. Both Participants may receive a Reward when the Referred Friend agrees to participate in the Program, applies for a Personal Loan, and is approved for a Personal Loan through Oportun and that loan is disbursed.
    Important: If a referral code is not provided at time of loan application, and the loan is disbursed, the Participants will not qualify for the Program and the Reward will not be awarded.
  6. The Referrer may receive up to $550 per calendar year. A Referred Friend may only receive one Reward for opening a loan account, but will then be eligible to participate as a Referrer after that time.

If multiple referrals are received for the same Referred Friend, the Reward will be issued based on the referral code provided at time of loan application. Employees of Oportun are not eligible for this Program. Rewards are nontransferable. All Personal Loans through Oportun are subject to credit approval. Due to the confidential nature of the credit approval process, Oportun cannot disclose to the Referrer whether a Referred Friend has chosen to participate in the Program or the status or outcome of a Referred Friend’s loan application. If a Referred Friend obtains a loan from Oportun but does not choose to participate in the Program, neither the Referrer nor the Referred Friend will be eligible for a Reward. The Referrer will not be notified if a Referred Friend chooses to participate or when/if an application from a Referred Friend is approved or declined. Referrer acknowledges that by referring a friend through this program, Referrer is releasing non-public information of the fact that Referrer is or was a customer of Oportun. By participating, the Referrer agrees that Oportun may disclose to the Referred Friend that the Referrer is or was a customer of Oportun.

Electronic gift card Rewards will be fulfilled via email sent typically within 10 business days, but in some cases up to 6 weeks, following the Referred Friend’s date of loan. Emails will be sent from the following email address: [email protected]. Emails will be sent to the Participant’s email address on file with Oportun at the time the Reward is payable. Oportun is not responsible for non-delivery or non-receipt of Rewards in the event the Referrer or Referred Friend’s email address on file is inaccurate or an email is returned as undeliverable, whether due to any form of active or passive filtering by a user’s internet service provider and/or email client, or for insufficient space in user’s email account to receive email, or for any other cause. Program participants should inform Oportun promptly in the event their email address changes, whether prior to or after paying off their Oportun loan.

Physical gift cards will be mailed, within 8 weeks following the Referred Friend’s date of loan, to the Participant’s address on file with Oportun at the time the Reward is payable. Oportun is not responsible for non-delivery or non-receipt of Rewards in the event the Participant’s home address on file is inaccurate or a mailing is returned as undeliverable.

Rewards are not redeemable for cash, are subject to all terms and conditions of issuer, and will not be replaced if lost, stolen, or damaged. No Reward replacement permitted. Oportun may prohibit a Participant from participating in the Program or receiving a Reward, in its sole discretion, if it determines that such Participant is attempting to undermine the fairness, integrity, or legitimate operation of the Program in any way.

Participants agree to release, discharge, and hold Oportun and its respective directors, officers, employees, promotion agencies, and assigns harmless against any and all claims, damages, and liability caused, or claimed to be caused, by participation in this Program or use or redemption of any Reward. In the event there is a discrepancy or inconsistency between disclosures or other statements contained in any Program materials and these terms and conditions, the terms and conditions shall prevail, govern, and control. Oportun will not be responsible for any typographical or other error in the printing of the Program or administration of the Program. This Program and these terms and conditions shall be interpreted in accordance with the laws of California without regard to its principles of conflicts of law. Jurisdiction and venue shall be solely within the State of California.. Disputes and claims related to the Program must be submitted to Oportun in writing at [email protected] within 60 days after discontinuation of the Program, to be considered. Privacy: The personal information you submit when you participate in this Program will be subject to  Privacy Policy information available at Oportun.com/privacy . Any personal information handled by an agency or vendor of Oportun will be done solely on its behalf and all such information shall be handled in conformity with the Policies. Marden-Kane, Inc. and Zferral, Inc. dba Ambassador Software (Tango Card) have been contracted as an independent third-party administrator. Referrer information is shared with Marden-Kane, Inc. and Zferral, Inc. dba Ambassador Software (Tango Card) for the sole purpose of Reward fulfillment.
